Solid Shoe
This is the 6th pair of 991/992's I've owned. They're a great pair of shoes for my running style and gait. Every other brand gives me knee pain. Not these. Plus they are classy and retro looking and all that. Little pricey, but this is one area I don't skimp. Worth the money!

Comfort and updated design
I bought these for my boyfriend to replace his 992s (he buys a pair or two a year and has done so for 5 years or so), and he was pleased that the fit and comfort were the same as always. He was also pleasantly surprised that the clear plastic bubble on the sides were edited out of this new edition because they corroded and cracked in his old pair.

A Good Running Shoe
I've been using New Balance running shoes for over 25 years and they have never given me an injury that kept me from running, a record other shoes I've tried can't match (I first tried a pair of Z-coils, which both perform and hold up well but felt as is I were running on stilts. Then I bought a pair of ASICS Gel Enduro 3 Trail Running Shoe Mens and promptly gave myself a case of shin splints that took a full year to heal (how was I to know they were for trail running? You mean people run on TRAILS?)
My favorite models are/were the New Balance® 550 Cross Trainer and the 992.
I started trail and desert running in an attempt to run on a softer surface, but when I did I twisted my ankles in the 992s so many times that I eventually used those Asics on an actual trail (and they worked so well I wore them out completely, they are totally falling apart.)
I will probably replace both the 992s and the Asics with a pair of Mens New Balance 908 Trail Running Shoe, which are supposed to be good for both the street and for trails.
So, would I compare the new 992s to my first pair of NB? In truth they are almost certainly better shoes, but the leap from Army boots to Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Lo Top Black to NB was such a huge jump forward that its hard to match when you are comparing a bunch of high quality running shoes. The bottom line? I've never gone wrong with New Balance and the 992 is no exception. Firm, no shin splints, and no bad knees either. Worth the price and made right here in the US, too.

Good Shoe for Over-Pronator - They wear out a bit quick though
I'm on second pair of these shoes - I liked them so much I bought a second pair after getting about 6 months out of the first pair. I do about 3-5 miles about 5 times per week - I've had other brands last a lot longer, but at present, these shoes are exactly why my old feet need! So, for the somewhat short life span, I'll deduct one star...

Aisics for heavy guys
These a great shoes if you are over 200 lbs. They give nice cusion and support, and the 4E's are nice if you need them. I ran a marathon in the rain and found out that 4E is too wide for me.

Good shoe, but order a 1/2 to 1 size up
These are great, especially if you are heavier or a moderate pronator or have trouble with flatter feet. ORDER 1/2 or 1 SIZE UP! I typically wear a 9.5, and they were WAY too small. Save yourself a bother and order up. Nice construction, good support, comfortable so far.

Great Ride
Great Shoe for the pavement runner. I needed a stable shoe for Sheriff Academy and went to the high priced running store. They recommended the Asics Gel Foundation. These shoes are a great ride!

Reduced my Shin splints to a great extent.
I overpronate moderately. I bought these primarily to control my overpronation. So far it has done it's job well. I used to have severe shin splint while running. Now after having used these shoes for over a month, my shin splints have greatly reduced. It fits great and supports my ankle well. The slight discomfort in my ankle immediately after running is completely gone after running in these shoes.
By the way I am about 145 lbs with a small built. I run about 10 miles weekly at under 8 mins a mile.

Questions & Answers

Question : What are some qualities of running shoes?
What are some qualities of running shoes? My coach told us to get some running shoes, but I do not know what to get. What are some defining aspects of running shoes? Where can I get a decent pair for a decent price?
Answer:
Cushioning is #1(and maybe #2 and #3 as well). Some shoes are designed for motion control for runners that have overpronation or supination, etc., but I'm not sure it's a big help. Differences between shoes include things like weight, flexibility, construction(full slip vs half), outsole pattern and durability. Every manufacturer will claim their system of cushioning gives your more than anyone elses, but it's mostly hype. Fit and feel for you will be the most important things in the end. Additionally, some shoes are better for high milage than others so you should match the kind of running you'll be doing to the shoe.
Definitely go to a specialty running store. They have the best selection, will find out what kind of runner you are(some have treadmills to see), and can explain the differences between various models.

Question : What type of shoes are good for running on sidewalks?
I have recently joined track and need good running shoes. We run on sidewalks... (I guess it's cement?!) I recently bought "track shoes" with "track spikes" and I want to know if I should keep and wear them or return them. We don't really run anywhere but streets, sidewalks.
Answer:
DO NOT WEAR FLATS DURING PRACTICE!!! Use trainers. The flats are for meets. And the road is better for your legs than the sidewalks.

Question : What are the best running shoes available for women?
I want to start cross country next year and so am looking for good running shoes. I'm willing to pay maybe eighty dollars, but the less the better.
Answer:
NEW BALANCE. NIKE. ADIDAS. THEN REEBOK.

Question : Where is a good place to buy running shoes in Taipei, Taiwan?
I am running in the marathon at Tarko Gorge in November. I need to pick up another pair of running shoes, but I have no idea where to go. I've been in Taiwan for 2 months so I know where to get shoes at night markets etc., but I need quality running shoes. It would be nice if there was a shoe or running specific store. It would also be nice if the store has people that speak English and could fit me for quality running shoes. Price is really not an issue.
Answer:
If you are wear it for the competition, don't but it at night markets.
You should buy it at department stores, sports wear store...etc.
In Taipei, go to Gongguan (公館) very close to Taiwan university, there are some sports wear shops there, price are resonable, quality is also good.
Every year from October in Taiwan, time for department store's on sale, buy everything ,they always has discount better than regular time.
Shinkong Mitsukoshi, Sogo....
Go go go...

Question : What are good mens running shoes to buy?
I run on pavement around my neighborhood. I try to do 3 miles a day. Maybe something with cushion/durability. What are some good mens running shoes?
Answer:
My favorite running shoes are Asics, just as everyone else said, but they are not for everyone. There are different types of shoes for different types of runners. It all depends on how you move your feet when you run: do you pronate (turn your foot inward) or supinate (roll your foot outward)? How heavy are you? How often do you run? Are you prone to injury? These are all things to consider when selecting the appropriate running shoe.
The best thing to do is to go to a nearby running specialty store. A worker there should talk with you and watch you run and can reccomend the right type of shoe for you. Good luck with your running.

Question : How long should I wear new running shoes before they're broken in enough to run a 5k?
I am running my first 5k in a few weeks and have been training in old running shoes. I want some new ones before the race, but am wondering how long I have to wear them before they're broken in enough. I know it probably depends on the shoe, but am wondering if there is a general rule of thumb.
Answer:
I remember the old days when running shoes needed 10 or 20 miles to loosen up. But nowadays, if the shoe fits, I never get blisters anymore.
Also a 5k is pretty short, you'd have a hard time getting blisters anyway unless the shoes were a bad fit.
So maybe one or two short runs should be enough.

Question : How to get my running shoes to look like new again?
I just got new running shoes, and they have this white mesh on them. I stepped in mud, and that turned the brightly white mesh darker, so it looks like there gray and old. Is there anyway to make my white mest to look new again?
Answer:
wash them with bleach

Question : What can running in shoes that are a little narrow do to the health of my feet?
The width of my feet are in between medium and wide. I just bought running shoes in medium width because they didn't have wides. They're a little tight but not that bad though they could stand to be a little roomier. I was curious to know what wearing shoes that are too narrow could do to my feet while running? Is it bad for my feet? What kind of problems could I run into?
Answer:
Last year my girlfriend had shoes that were to narrow. After a month of wearing them she ended up with a bruised bone in her foot. The shoe was squeezing the bones near her toes together and cause the damage. These were not running shoes just everyday shoes. It took about 3 months to heal. I would suggest getting the size and shape you need.
Be Well!!

Question : running shoes?
what brand of running shoes are the best? what kind? Any tips for buying running shoes would be greatly appreciated.
Answer:
Running shoes are a pretty individual decision, based on how you walk/run, what kind of mileage you do, and what kind of surface you'll run on most of the time.
I went to a New Balance store for my most recent pair, and got great help for the sales person, who had me walk barefoot in the store so he could help me make the best decision. He also asked about how I was running now and what my intentions /goals were.
In the city where I live, there's a similar store that has helpful sales clerks, but sells a wider variety of brands. A nearby town has a Fleet Feet store, and they do the same sort of thing, I hear. Fleet Feet stores are in a number of states, so maybe there's a store near you. Here's the URL: http://www.fleetfeet.com/
